Courier is a stop-frame animated, experimental film recorded during late December on the last day of a Christmas Fair in Central London. The color negative was hand-processed using the most rudimentary techniques possible: the chemicals were housed in buckets so that the negative could be plunged into the mixtures. As the surface of the emulsion on the negative was intentionally physically punctured, torn and damaged through this most basic of developing processes, the resulting film is flecked with scratches and streaked with black scars: holes where images used to be. courier depicts a thrilling experimental collision of abstraction and representation through recording and process and is accompanied by an original piece of music written specifically for the film. |
