The Old Blood features Geoff Taylor, an embalmer who has embalmed over 30,000 people in his 40-year career. We hear Geoff describe his experiences of embalming, the processes and procedures of his practice, while we see original footage combined with archive material depicting hundreds of portraits of people. These briefly glimpsed portraits of unknown persons parade before us as we hear Geoff describing his relationship of working with the dead. The soundtrack for The Old Blood was created from over 25 hours of interviews carried out over an 18-month period. The Old Blood is funded by the Wellcome Trust London with substantial support from North West Film Archive, Manchester Metropolitan University, Wellcome Library, United States Navy and the National Library of Medicine and Westminster Library.
