Madeleine is her old father’s sunshine and her boyfriend William’s muse. The young man is a talented painter. Millionaire Henungway announces the pupils of the Academy of Art that he will offer $10,000 to whoever will paint the best portrait of his late wife. William notices Madeleine’s likeness to her and uses her as a model. Unfortunately, she catches pneumonia during the sitting and dies. Her heartbroken father, upon hearing of the success of William’s painting, steals the portrait from the exhibit. William finds out but when he realizes the sorrow that his ambition caused, he gives the poor man the prize money. |
