Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as his parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.
A great example of how Hollywood wouldn’t know a good, entertaining film without a time machine to take them back 20 or 30 years to when they actually did know. First that awful Birdman film won, and now this. It started off well, and then… Sue me if I still think Pretty Woman told a more entertaining story. I watch to be entertained, not naval gaze.
I loved Pretty Woman. I read that they had a sequel planned, but Julia Roberts hated Richard Gere so much, she refused to be in it. I think they should do a sequel called “Pretty Lady,” where Vivian has become a revered leader in NY city society circles, her husband has died, and she and her daughter (their only living child) are running his company. That way, she wouldn’t have to work with Gere, and the story could continue years later.
just finished watching it, not a bad movie at all, left me sad the end though. would love to see a sequel or even a spin off miniseries on Anora, she’s a hooker with a heart of gold and tart with heart. you feel for her through the movie. her husband and that family was pure trash.
I agree, nice to see Mike Madison of Better Things in a role like this, hope to see her in more good films or miniseries and not been impressed or curious with too much of the films of the past year or so, so this one was a great one and her BAFTA award was richly deserved, I hope she gets her Oscar
did see it and ehhhh not a good film imo, though wasn’t expecting the ending to be what it was which if your sensitive to the death of Sharon Tate, it was good! lol
After this won the Palme d’Or and 5 Oscars, I was like wtf is this about? So, I had to find out… (It was also in the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute’s top ten films of 2024) PS. The film additionally won Best Actress (Madison) and Best Casting at the 78th British Academy Film Awards. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anora
Every character in this film was detestable and uninteresting - and not in a “wow, that actor is really bringing life to this role!” kind of way. It was a chore to get through. The second and third acts were akin to watching a reel of police bodycam footage, the ones where you just see a gaggle of halfwit morons scramble for a half hour straight. The Academy is f—-ing wiggy.
So basically an inverse of Trump and Melania?
Melania’s quite a step up from Jill Biden who looked like the lead singer of an Alice Cooper tribute band!
I was thinking that it was based on Camel-Toe/Heels Up Harris’ “Rise” among the ranks of the Democrat Party..especially out in California.
But he’s your president and there’s nothing you can do about it 😂
Where’d you hear that, the Democrat owed legacy media? No more USAID money for them!
trim the fat no matter where it is.

If that’s the case, you should watch Once Apon a Time in Hollywood.

Mikey Madison was crazy in that movie.
LOL that she was! good acting
The main dude is built like Eliot Page.
No Russian-to-English subs? Ridiculous.
I’d ask for my money back!

I was saving this for later, but I guess I have to watch it now.
