‘Saying Goodbye’ takes the viewer on a prospective journey through Dr. Fox’s end-of-life experiences with her 97 year old father. Using an intimately filmed, first-person perspective, she captures this complex process in 15 short scenes which trigger self-reflection, group discussion, and deeply felt personal emotions. Dr. Fox (a psychiatry professor who teaches life-span development) decided to share this personal video journal to help others deal with losing a loved one. Her father was remarkably articulate, thoughtful, and realistic as he shared his thoughts on whether or not it was time for his life to end. Dr. Fox provides an instructor’s manual for health professionals who help others deal with loss. However, the documentary is relevant for anyone who struggles with losing a loved one.
