On November 8th, 2013, Typhoon Yolanda made landfall in the Central Philippines. The hardest hit areas included Samar and Leyte Provinces. Typhoon Yolanda was one of the strongest storms ever recorded, with winds topping 175 mph. It was the deadliest typhoon in recorded history. Overall, 16 million people were affected, with over 6300 dead, thousands missing and at least 1.1 million homes destroyed or damaged.
