So I just watched a movie about mutated alien cells trying to change the world.
Fascinating.
Everyone is pissed off that his next movie has the title “Men” lmaoo
I can’t wait for it.
Why is that? Is it because it’s too basic of a title?
I’m not.
nope. Me neither.
This movie was very bizarre; but that just describes the mysterious world you’re thrown into during this film. Its frightening while also beautiful. It also leaves you guessing at the end. It’s a slow burn kind of film, so you will either love it or hate it for that. Personally, in my opinion, I think slower horror films that take their time with the plot and building up to the climax are the best kind. Fast-paced jumpscares get old after awhile. Anyway, I rate this film 5/5. Its beautiful, you have to see it at least once.
I keep watching this i like it alot
Agreed. Its a very unique movie.
I have watched it like 4 or 5 times, and I decided to read the books too :)
Helplessly hoping plays… I’m in a good place
The visual effects in this movie were pretty impressive, considering today’s standards. It was pretty gory at times. Beware. But that’s about one of the very few things that were good about this movie. The very slow pace was boring, I find myself doing other things, while not missing anything about the story. Then, most of the actions of the characters made no sense, scientifically speaking. Too many illogical behaviors. Too many stupid things said by some of the characters, that went against the actions they were doing. Even the mental state of each member in the group was questionable. They were undisciplined, which was annoying. Especially with the doctor selfishness. A leader does not leave his/her crew behind. I had to fast-forward to the last 20mins, because the storyline was going nowhere. And by the end of the movie, I was annoyed. This movie had so much potential, but it was bugged down unnecessary long scenes, an incoherent script, and a lazy finality, that doesn’t satisfy. More times should’ve been spent on the “alien or aliens”, and their motivation. Instead, it just ends. But what happens next with the “couple”? We don’t know. I hate it when stops like that. So for me, this was nothing more than a one-time watch. Beautiful to look at at least. 2/5 stars.
If I may Bella, their behavior was erratic true they were all heavily flawed individuals and the Dr knew it she was a psychiatrist. They were chosen for that very reason. The Dr had no intention of anyone returning because her flaw was cancer she was dying and had nothing to lose. Also the movie was poorly edited as well because some important info was left out from the the final cut. The title of the movie for instance was the control word used to delete memories from the women should the need arise and apparently it did. Do you remember when they woke up with no memory of setting up camp and there had been more food eaten than they could account for. That code word Annihilation had be used but it had been cut from the movie. I loved the concept that a life form with no true concept of itself needing only to find a way to survive by altering the life around it until found a suitable form. There was no intellect there until it found it’s awareness in Oscar Isaac’s character. It had found awareness in the others but their flaws made them unsuitable because they were not on a course for a sustained existence. While Oscar was dealing with the pain of betrayal the alien found a means to survive through his love of Natalie Portmans character. He had no intentions of continuing the relationship with her so his form was copied with out the memory’s of her betrayal. Her flaw was her guilt for betraying him but her love for him was what drove her. So she was flawed but the flaw didn’t hamper the coupling in fact it was why she didn’t need to be replaced. So finding it’s best way to survive in them It ended all other attempts of finding a form to continue living. I thought it was pretty cool myself, even though the movie had it’s issues.
Well said. Remember watching this some time back, and thought it was worth watching.
lol Yes there was but it was also was very vague about any motivations the life form had. those were my thoughts. The title and code word Annihilation were from the book :)
3 books (Annihilation, Authority, and Acceptance). This is based on the trilogy, unfortunately they choose to use the title of the first book, condense the movie into one and change a lot to fit the decided time frame. It was a mistake. There is too much that anyone who didn’t read the books wouldn’t know, and what they changed makes it even more incoherent.
Point taken, McShagan. That was just MY opinion. And I respect your opinion. Good day.
Anytime Bella and just to let you know I up voted your comment. I feel any attempt to discuss a movie is a good thing no matter how it made you feel.
Thanks for this insight. I was trying to decide if everything was biological, related to evolution in some way, or psychological. Strange movie, but interesting and I typically enjoy anything which makes me think. It kind of reminds me of this movie: https://www.primewire.li/movie/1377529-watch-doors, only way better.
👍
ok lets start with the most impressive part of this film the visuals..they were outstanding!!!! so gorgeous to look at. the story however is great and at the same time confusing LOL towards the end i thought to myself is this what being on acid feels like? LOL in the end i give this film a solid 9/10
I rewatched this last night after all the comments. This time I saw lots of plot holes. Why send this group in knowing something was in there spreading and not give the group anything even basic in lab protection….not even rubber gloves. No suits, no protective masks. Let them breathe the air, and touch everything. Why not gather samples near the barrier so there was less contamination.. After a couple of years of a real pandemic, I could see how silly and without much thought the script was.O had forgotten the ending though. I liked that it left things upended and everyone guessing.
Thanks, I did not know it was based on any books. That explains allot.
It’s sci-fi, not reality and based on a trilogy that squeezed into one film. They should’ve adapted all 3 books separately, not made them one and changed VITAL plot elements. Read the books. :)
Also, taking an AR-15 into bear country is a suicide walk. I’m a “city boy” and even I know that.
It’s not a bear, though. This is sci-fi, based on the trilogy (Annihilation, Authority, and Acceptance). It’s a great series of books that they dumbed down to ONE for the movie. Too bad they ruined it.
To me, it looked like an opossum the size of a bear.
It used to be a bear. lol
lol the screaming was freaky. Still freaks me out. I truly wish they’d divided the books up. It would have been so much better. I still liked it, but…
Point taken already!!!!
an opossum or a possum?……yes there’s a difference— Possums live in Australia,New Zealand, and China, are grey, black,or brown in color, with bushy tale, while opossums live in North America and South America, have white faces and grey bodies, and have hairless tails. ..just askin alien.
Do possums carry the rabies virus? The opossum in north-south America don’t because of their very, very low body temp. Even though the opossum looks freakish, they eat a lot of ticks, grubs and are a good creature to have around but sadly, they don’t live long.
“I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. An elephant’s faithful, one hundred percent!” 😉
Very thought provoking. If you find yourself drawn to different areas of physics, this will feel like a trip to a Candy store. 5/5 ✨ Very enjoyable.
A good quarantine movie. I seem to come back to watch this movie every 6 or 7 months.
4/5
It was a nice movie with an interesting storyline, but I didn’t really like it. When they make things too weird and don’t explain it or connect it with reality or with the movie’s reality it’s not really for me.
I thought they did explain it.
