Claudia, an African-American woman in her mid-thirties, is a very successful career professional who seems to have it all together. However, coming home to an empty house after a long day at work painfully serves as a reminder of what she still lacks in life. As her closest friends and family members are getting married and starting families of their own, Claudias life as a single woman becomes harder to cope with. Soliloquy is a short film that explores the hidden side of singleness with both honesty and hope. Emerging from an internal state of self-pity and loneliness, Claudia self-reflects and chooses to appreciate herself and where she is in life. She accepts her current state of singleness as a time to get to know herself instead of resenting the fact that she has yet to meet a man to share her life with. She still desires to have a family of her own, but she learns to enjoy her life in the meantime. Although she may not fall under the title of wife or mother, she realizes all the fulfilling relationships she does get to enjoy as a daughter, sister, and friend. Claudia no longer allows her contentment and satisfaction to be affected by what she has yet to attain in life, but rather learns the importance of loving herself before seeking the love of someone else. |
