A two-day road trip in San Giovanni Rotondo, a small town in the eastern coast of southern Italy, known also as the ‘Las Vegas of miracles’, that owes its fame to Padre Pio, Italy’s most poular saint of recent history, a Capuchin priest with stigmata, dead in 1968 and venerated by catholic believers far more than any other figures, including italian postars. Here, an assorted group of pilgrims - formed by fanatic, skeptical and just curious visitors - led by Peter, a disillusioned college professor without work who reinvented himself as a touristic guide, move around holy sites and merchandising shops in search of a sign, a meaning, an answer, or just a souvenir. |
