Far too often “creatives” take an IP and create a story that can’t stand on its own, with only hopes to cash in on the popularity of the existing IP. After two episodes, this might be a show that being attached to The Batman IP is almost a disservice to the show. What they’re doing here does more than stand on its own. You’ll know who these characters are before you know their names, no hours of exposition necessary. Rhenzy Feliz’s Victor is the one unknown in all of this and being any more than set dressing with Colin Farrell snarling at him from across the scene is a job unto itself. It’s rare for a show to come together knowing this is it, their one and only chance to tell this story, and just lay it all out there. No holding things back for future season or movie spinoffs, just pure storytelling. Sadly, too many writers don’t understand that you have to know where you’re going before you can get there.
