Get ready for sketch comedy...Canadian style! The Kids In The Hall are a hilarious sketch comedy troupe. They got their name from a comedian named Jack Benny, who would often end a joke by saying: "I got this from the kids in the hall", referring to the amateur comedians who would hang around outside his office. KITH was formed in 1984 when McCulloch and McKinney, who had worked together in Calgary as part of a group named the Audience, teamed up with Foley and McDonald's Toronto-based group, KITH. Thompson officially joined in January 1985. That same year, McCulloch and McKinney were hired as writers for NBC's Saturday Night Live after a talent scout saw KITH in performance. Significantly, SNL had also been created by Michaels, himself an ex-patriate Canadian living and producing in New York. Still in 1985, Foley appeared in the film High Stakes, and Thompson and McDonald toured with... |

So cool so many here are taking note of this post. Kids In The Hall will never not be funny, their comedy was irreverent and not based current events, and that’s the entire reason the comedy goes over so well no matter what generation. It’s timeless comedy, as well as the timing within the comedy being unparalleled, if that makes any sense. Lol…if you’re young, and have never seen this show, do yourself a favor, and give this show a chance…I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you like your comedy jaded and confused…but still makes sooo much sense!! Lol
Since I saw the first comments posted I’ve been watching random episodes and not one has failed to crack me up. I love having these throwbacks to watch again. I’ll admit, as a kid some of the jokes went over my head, but now…LOL!
Amazing how something can stick with you line for line after watching it 30 years ago, this show definitely shaped my taste for oddball comedy
I got to see them live in San Francisco. They were only supposed to do one night and ended up doing the show for a few more nights.
Randall - see my note above in reply to snazzydetritus. I saw them in Southern California. We must have seen them during the same time frame. Although our show was a test run.
There were a lot of gay teenage boys in the theater. It was a special event that these kids could actually gather in a large forum. However, when Scott Thompson did his “Buddy” routine, the crowd went wild. Dave Foley came out and said that the integrity of the show and character were not to be hooted at or shouted at, even with whoo-hoos. He said the show would not go on until the audience calmed down. Did that happen in San Francisco?
It’s funny, when I saw them in San Diego, I had just moved back from San Francisco! :-)
I just wanted to throw it out there that Primewire has both movies, too.

If you never have I highly suggest you watch Brain Candy. It is absolutely hilarious.
And just to add an asterisk to that, Dave Foley is amazing in this comedy, one of the FUNNIEST movies EVER.

Out of the whole troupe, Foley pops up the most in movies and TV shows. He’s always great. This is another good one albeit a B film.

three of my favorites. there are hundreds of other classics too
Let me tell you something: go to season 4 episode 16, and skip to 10:53, and you will find my new favorite sketch of the moment.
“…Cow - Car - Cow - Car… then what happened?” picks up salt shaker
“my, my pen!”
Between this & Monty Python’s Flying Circus I had zero chance of growing up ‘normal’ (thank god)
I also was raised by the Kids. At least twice daily something reminds me of a skit. I live this way and I love it.
Announced today Amazon ordered New Episodes of Kids in the hall!! Cant wait!!! Grew up on this show. So stoked. “Crush Crush Crush, I’m Crushing your head.”
“I squish your face” Are you one of the Daves I know?
Oh lordy! I still sing The Daves I Know and I haven’t heard it for about 30 years and I only saw it the once! I am sure I have the lyrics wrong, LOL. One of my favorite skits.
“Some of us are David, but most of us are Dave. We all have our own hands but we come from different moms.”
Thank you! I only know the chorus. I remember watching with my sister, tears streaming down our cheeks. I saw them live in Southern California. They were testing out their show at a local theater. I couldn’t believe my sister and I got tickets! I don’t know if that live show ever took off?
So far this reboot is just as funny as Season 1 was in days of yore. They’ve obviously spent some time stewing in their own creative juices. And there’s cameos! That’s new.
