Alison takes a dated and poorly laid out kitchen and transforms it into the perfect space to raise a large family. A drop down ceiling fitted with fluorescent lighting is removed, making way for a new drywall ceiling with can lighting to brighten the room. To allow for additional cabinetry, a window is closed off and the mudroom door is replaced with a full lite door to bring in more light. Old, sparse cabinetry is cleared out and replaced with buttercup yellow and mint green cabinets, doubling the storage in the kitchen. The kitchen table that never quite fit is swapped out to make space for a large peninsula where the family can do homework, snack and hang out. Cushy cork flooring, a multi-colored tile ceramic backsplash and brand new appliances give the kitchen functionality and style. To add a personal touch, Alison brings in a DIY garden wall and DIY bulletin board to give the children a space in the kitchen without letting them take over the place. |
