Nice twist, this episode! This show is one of the very few currently running that DOES NOT get on my nerves with current events. True escapism, at its finest! How it’s meant to be!
It’s all about what’s going on in the US right now, just presented in an over the top, fictional setting.
It’s just not as “in your face” as the rest. “And for that, we thank you!”
Not to be contentious, but that’s the very complaint that many are making about this season. Ratings for this season have dropped compared to the previous ones, with whining about it going “woke”. It was never all that subtle with the political satire, but they’ve really stepped it up this season. Calls to use the 25th amendment to declare the president incompetent, like you see in this episode, mirror what some are saying about Biden now. Using alt-right media to stoke fears about immigrants and transgender people is mentioned in this episode as well. I’m not trying to ruin it for you, but it is very political and topical as hell. :)
I got all the connections, but I find they’re a bit more subtle than other fare (take The Acolyte…please!); I can ignore it and continue to be entertained.
