ULTRA-violent anime!

ART & STORY:
The CGI parts have offended purists, but I liked the whole ensemble - it’s good to see a different artistic direction occasionally, so long as the end result is visually pleasing.
The show has an element of the “Just who are the REAL monsters here?” trope, but this POV can’t excuse or justify the insane acts of terrorism perpetrated by the elderly villain and his goons - the antagonist is one of the most nihilistic bad guys ever.
MC is quite believable as he is not cast in the mould of the traditional noble anime hero - on the contrary, he wants to avoid the madness and violence, and tries at first to live a normal life, which, sadly, isn’t an option for him. He’s just a kid, after all. The course of events which unfold inevitably shake him from his apathy.

DEVELOPMENT:
The writer had a case of writer’s block mid-way through season 2, so somebody else took over. I stopped watching it at this point but have been meaning to pick it up again, as it was a great show with a decent premise.

SUMMARY: Even if you don’t like anime - give this a go, horror fans! The artwork has a more “mature” look than the usual “eyes like windmills” stuff you see in 90% of anime, and the story is deeply shocking at times.
