Barkskins is set in Wobik, a small settlement in what is now the Canadian province of Quebec. As the Catholic Church sends Jesuit priests to convert the indigenous people, France sends indentured servants to populate its territory, along with "Filles Du Roi" ("Daughters of the King"), young women to be matched with husbands, start families, and help the colonies prosper. This disparate group of outcasts, rogues, and innocents must navigate brutal hardships, competing interests, and tangled loyalties at the crossroads of civilization: 1690s New France.

Too bad they cancelled this one, it had promise. Unlike series like Frontier which are filled with terrible accents and simple storylines, this one had a really original script.

Hey, it’s Remus Lupin from Hogwarts! There’s a nice balance of good guys and bad guys and mysterious goings on, and the characters get more depth and become more complex over the course of the season. Really looking forward to season 2.

An excellent start in the accounting of the founding of a nation. Good characters, good actors, and acting. Personal stories that probably DID take place in America’s early history at some point in time. Authentic portrayals of the lives that were led…fighting, planting, housing, eating, the role of women, and ways of life. The way we WERE. I’m looking forward to season two.

I’m not a fan of David Thewlis and I think it’s his voice that gets on my nerves. Anyway, he will be in a new tv drama titled Sherlock & Daughter. With Thewlis as Sherlock Holmes, the series puts the detective out of his comfort zone, mysteriously unable to investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends. He then meets Amelia (Blu Hunt), an American who, after her mother’s mysterious murder, learns that Sherlock may be her missing father. Despite wildly different backgrounds and attitudes, the pair must work together to solve a global conspiracy, crack her mother’s murder and find out for sure if she really is Sherlock’s daughter. The cast also includes Dougray Scott as Holmes’ nemesis, Moriarty.

Too bad this was cancelled, such an original story - they need to dive into Canadian history, they could make a million shows and movies about the 15th-19th centuries up there.
