Rear Windows
Description:

This is my list of Shows that have done an episode in the style of the original Hitchcock film Rear Window Starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. This can be an homage, parody or ripoff. These episodes usually involve the protagonist being stuck at home with an injury and quickly evolves into the Window Watcher trope (named after Rear Window). Many find a way to work it into the script that the protagonist has to wear a full leg cast and be in a wheelchair like the original movie. Some scale it down with a removable walking cast or they get creative. Either way they in one way or another witness a major crime after spending way too much time spying on the neighbors. They then have to solve the crime because they do not have much credibility after being stir crazy at home for so long. And of course the murder has cleaned up the scene of the crime which we find out because at some point the “Exploring the evil Lair” trope happens.

When done on TV, this is often a “Bottle” episode (a non canon episode done in one/few sets and as inexpensively as possible with a non-union writer trying to get into the union most seasons have 2 for unions to allow writers to step up) Most shows that have bottle episode have a few seasons under their belt these episodes release the writers and help them reach syndication.

This formula has also been repeated in movies as well! Feel free to shout out any you can think of and I will add them. Many of them have titles that play on other Hitchcock films.
