Near Silence is a visually and emotionally moving story about what it means to love and the difficult choices it can force you to make. Writer-director Ana de Lara explores the struggles of true love in the darkness of disease. This is not a story about losing someone you love, but what you lose because of how much you love them. Through the poetry of narrative and the poetry of motion, de Lara draws you in to the touching story of Roger and Fay. Roger is a former concert pianist, debilitated by later stage Huntington’s disease. His wife, Fay, has become his caregiver. Since the onset of his illness ten years ago, Roger has lost control of his movements, and the ability to think and communicate. Now, no longer able to cope with her husband’s incapacitated state and the deterioration of their marriage, Fay struggles to find meaning in their existence. |
