On the map it’s Carpinteria, but everyone calls it CARP. A sleepy little beach town on the Central Coast of California, it’s about 4 square miles of land, about 13,000 people. Set inside a beautiful beach front campground, using interviews, historical photos and home movies, we’ll hear from locals, campers and all the key players as they recount the town’s successes (beating Big Oil on the ballot, saving their cherished Bluffs from developers) and the lows (Carp had one of the last segregated schools in California, the on-going controversy over removing Native American imagery at the High School). It will be hard not to find yourself or someone you know in a small town called CARP. |
