Andrea, a cocky young Roman, is trying to get in touch with his Milanese girlfriend Beatrice, away for her studies, before going out for the evening to close an important business deal. Unfortunately there are problems on the line: whereas he can hear her very well, she can’t hear him at all and starts believing it’s some pranksters calling her or, worse, a sex maniac. The intervention of a nosy Neapolitan phone operator only complicates matters.
