Henri III, King of France, desired the removal of the Duke de Guise, who has been paying marked attention to Henri’s sister, Marguerite of France, and so he hires a band of cut-throats to assassinate the Duke in a lonely spot on the road between Paris and Alençon. The King’s sister, however, hears of this plot and sends her friend, the Duke de Bussy, to save her lover. Bussy succeeds in his mission, but later the King finds out who has befriended his sister in this matter and results alternately the death of the noble Duke. |
