D, Dante, Ash and Ashleigh leave all behind as a way of escaping the brutal environment that surrounds them until alienation, infidelity, and poorly-made plans drag them back. Anomie portrays the idea of multiple selves. We all see and define the world differently depending on which mask we have on. Each character personifies a different side of the mind, whether it’s the egomaniac or the introvert in the male psyche, or the naive innocent verses the stoic in the female’s. Also, the film examines domestic abuse and the apathy or indifference of those surrounding it. Another theme interwoven in this film is bridging the gap in the artist’s mind between real life and what is put on the page. |
