After busking on the bank of the river Thames, a homeless ex-military heroin addict - Sid Tipper - walks the streets of London watching as everyone rushes home for Christmas eve. As a Christmas stall is closing, Sid buys a small chicken and continues on his way home. He arrives at the campsite underneath a railway bridge where his female companion who he looks after - Linda Galsworthy - is sleeping. He wakes her up and shows her the chicken they’re going to eat for Christmas dinner. It’s then revealed by Linda that the police came by the campsite earlier that day. This makes Sid angry and visibly enraged. Linda tries to calm him down and offers him some heroin she managed to get while he was gone. They do a hit each and fall asleep in each others arms. We’re left to contemplate their fate as the flicker from the camp fire dances off their faces.
