‘The Device’ is a short film (20 minute run time) in the sci-fi/thriller genre that examines the omnipresence of smart-phone technology in our lives. It’s the fictitious story of The Prizm, half bio-mechanical implant/half ‘wearable technology’ which enables the user to access all forms of media and communication that are currently accessible through today’s smart-phones (similar in some ways to Google Glass). Financed in part through the government, The Prizm is also used as a means of tracking people’s movements, behavior, even thoughts. The film explores the sort of privacy issues relevant to current events regarding the NSA (National Security Administration), the addictive qualities of mobile technology and the dependency, and isolation, this can bring. |
