Brian Lockwood, is an elderly man nearing the end of his life who has missed opportunities for personal happiness leaving him lonely and regretful. In the face of his doctor’s grim prognosis of his aortic aneurysm, Brian decides to forgo his medications and instead makes a difficult journey to town with the intention of passing on advice to his one and only friend, Dan, a young and withdrawn store clerk who exhibits the same characteristics that have made Brian a wretched recluse. Recognizing this and fearing for Dan’s future happiness, Brian confesses his life’s failures and presents Dan with a chance to avoid a similar fate, thereby gaining redemption for a life lived outside the bonds of human relationships.
