Deacon Jeremiah Green’s two sons, Jeremiah, Jr., and Daniel, are the village cutups, and are always getting into trouble and causing friction among the different members of the family. When the new parson arrives in town with his wife and daughter, Jeremiah, Jr., and Daniel, meet them at the railroad station and misinforms them as to the way to Deacon Green’s home. Footsore and weary, on the outskirts of the town, they come in contact with a man who is just about to enter a blind pig. Simon Fife, a villageite, sees Parson Brown and comes to the conclusion that he is about to purchase some of the fiery liquid. Brown is given information at the blind pig concerning Deacon Green’s whereabouts. That evening at Deacon Green’s home, where a surprise party is reigning supreme for the new parson, Simon Fife informs the Deacon of what he saw that afternoon. Parson Brown has a difficult time in explaining his most undesirable situation. Jeremiah, Jr., and Daniel, to make things more interesting, cover the chimney with a large iron plate. The smoke that filled the house a few moments later nearly suffocated the participants in the jovial entertainment. The town constable caught the boys and what he didn’t do to them was a caution. |
