In a rural parish in Värmland in 1906, young Heikki, one of the Finnish immigrants, lives a wild and free life in the deep forest. After poaching, his furs are confiscated by the parish constable Väppling while the young men of the parish are sniggering. Heikki vows to have his revenge by seducing the young women of the parish, one by one. The most influential in the parish is lady Malm of Gullsbacka manor who bears a grudge against all Finns in general and Heikki in particular. Her children Ingeborg and Gunnar though are not equally prejudiced. Her daughter Ingeborg is spellbound by Heikki and so is Gunnar’s fiancé, the school teacher Ellen. |
