In December 1975, George and Kathy Lutz along with their three children move into an elegant Long Island house. What they don’t know is that the house was the site of a horrific mass murder a year before. They decide to keep the house and attempt to keep the horror in the past, but are now haunted by a murderous presence. This is until, George starts to behave weirdly and their daughter, Chelsea starts to see people. What follows is 28 days of sheer, unbridled terror for the family with demonic visions of the dead. Based on the true story of George and Kathy Lutz, The Amityville Horror remains one of the most horrifying haunted house stories ever told - because it actually happened. |

In a cinematographic way, this movie is better than the original. But as far as I am concerned, the original is the best, because of childhood memories. This movie was not as bad as I anticipated, but there was nothing distinctive about it. It is watchable, no more. And it was not faithful to the book. The character of the mother, made it hard for me to connect to the movie. Her behavior was too un-motherly to me. I would open a serious can of ninja mode, whoop ass on ANYBODY who threatens my kids. Albeit a husband or a partner, I do not care. Your kids should ALWAYS come before ANY man or woman. THAT woman was a weakling, who got on my nerve. I cannot stand weak female characters. Women are stronger than men in many ways. Different strengths. And I wish Hollywood would understand that already, FFS. And kids, of course. Chloe Grace Moretz as Chelsea was the my pet peeve. Ya know, kids in horror movies and all. In all, barely good enough for a one-time watch, no more. Ryan Reynolds and his body were a nice welcomed eye-candy. The guy looked fine. Lol.
I’m not gonna say this one is better or worse than the original. The original was and remains ‘the original’. But what I can say is Ryan Reynolds gives a pretty darn good performance as George Lutz. A serious side of him we rarely see.
