Hong Kong: Out of the Shadows addresses the city’s democratic deficit and seeks to find out if protest remains the only platform through which local people’s voices can be heard. The film includes several interviews with key players from Hong Kong’s political scene as well as following the events surrounding a major series of protests which occurred in the city throughout 2009-10. In addition the film follows the progress of two people living in the city - an impoverished Chinese migrant and a wealthy expat accountant. Shots of Hong Kong provide an overview of life in this crowded metropolis and show us an increasingly divided city. |
