Martin and Jakob are only a few years apart but ideologically a whole world lies between them. Martin is a law student with middle-class ambitions, Jakob is an artist with a tendency to relax. However, they have one thing in common: they are brothers. When their mother Frida dies of a stroke, the brothers’ opposing concepts of living collide and the two have to confront each other. The decision how to bury the mother appropriately leads to a fight that strains the brotherly bonds. Martin finds out that his brother knew about their mother’s physical condition before her death, but didn’t let him in on it. He loses trust in his brother. As a conciliation now seems out of the question, bureaucracy takes its course and the mother is being officially cremated. To ensure an appropriate funeral for her mother after all, both brothers have to swallow their pride and take a risk: Jacob devises a venturous plan to retrieve their mother’s ashes and take them back to their magical childhood place. |
