From behind the shadows of their bedroom door, two Taiwanese brothers, Wang Hao (7) and Wang Po (10) witness a violent confrontation between their feuding parents one night. The verbal exchange escalates into physical violence, as their father, Wang Wen-Te, sends their mother, Wang Kuei-Chi, crashing down onto their living room floor. As Wang Wen-Te storms out the house, Wang Kuei-Chi takes the opportunity for her and her boys to escape their abusive patriarch. The boys are awakened to the hope of beginning the next chapter of their lives in the United States led by their mother. |
