13 months into his term of office, Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen speaks in his second traditional New Year’s speech. He looks back on six months of being President of the European Union and also looks forward by announcing for the first time that any referendum on the Danish exemptions on EU should wait until after the new EU constitution. He goes on to speak about a number of policy issues: A new focus on basic skills in the education system; a tougher line on organized crime; and, especially, an attack on those immigrants who do not accept Danish values, laws and rights. |
