The Kalunga people make up the largest remaining Quilombo in Brazil. In the past, Quilombos harbored fugitive slaves. The Kalunga await the definitive demarcation of their lands by the Federal Government. The film pays homage to the Kalunga communities, their peaceful resistance to the invasion and occupation of their lands and to the construction of a hydroelectric dam are filmed through the perspective of the community matriarchs as Brigida returns to the community. |
