SISU is a non-profit documentary about family, love and perseverance from Finland to America. Filmmaker Marko Albrecht began making SISU in 2011 honor the legacy of his late mother Päivi, his Finnish-American family and the Finnish mindset SISU. Just after starting SISU documentary in 2011 Päivii’s surviving brother Heikki informed the family he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and told he had 6 months to live. Albrecht spent the next 2 years traveling to Finland from NJ documenting Heikkis last amazing larger than life moments as he becomes a grandpa, has a surprise wedding, celebrates FInnish midsummer Juhannus and then Albrecht’s own twins traveling to Finland for first time. SISU is a film that profiles family as they conquer tragedy and triumph together. |
