Behind The Shroud examines themes of intelligence and security, espionage and counter-terrorism. The documentary’s methodology is investigative; is largely presented as an example of participatory mode; is independent and gritty in style. Behind The Shroud takes the viewer on a journey into that shadowy world of spies and espionage. It resolves the mystery of a high-profile security risk case known in New Zealand as the Ahmed Zaoui case. It presents the viewer with new information revealed through interviews with key players, including two secret witnesses who each testified at the Inspector General’s hearings on the case in Auckland 2007. The documentary begins at the conclusion of the case and explains why, after years of deeming Zaoui to be a security risk, he was set free. |
