Amazing 1941 Classic! John Ford directs a star studded cast in this outstanding production. The film received 5 Academy Awards in 1942 including: Best Picture, Best Director, and, Best Supporting Male Actor. Roddy McDowall, in his second cinematic role, gives a spectacular performance as Huw Morgan. Too bad the Academy didn’t recognize the contributions of child actors back then. This is a highly recommended watch.

A great film. It was an odd idea though for Hollywood to make a film about a Welsh mining family, cast non Welsh actors and try and sell it to audiences particularly American who had no idea where Wales was. The author wasn’t even Welsh, he was English a liar. The accounts of his life on which the film is based is pure fiction.
