Elegy is a short character-driven drama about a sufferer of a nihilistic delusion, in the same vein as Synecdoche, New York, Red Desert and Safe. Jules is a failed music conductor whose personal life is riddled with tension including frictions in his relationship. No one seems able to comprehend his illness as his life continues on a downward spiral and he progressively loses touch with reality. This short film addresses failure without being conventionally explicit; the breakdown acts as a culmination of the decay he feels in every aspect of his life. |
