The story of the global climate crisis is a story of missed opportunities. On June 21, 2012, our governments met in Rio for the Rio+20 conference to decide the future of the environment and sustainable development. When the final text was agreed upon though, it took no meaningful action. Members of civil society held a protest within the UN conference to show their disgust. The protest became a sit-in. Threatened with arrest, over 150 of them stayed, spoke out about their disappointment, and ultimately decided to voluntarily leave, handing in their UN badges on the way out. This video tells the story. |
