The 2011 Sing for Hope Pop-Up Pianos was the world’s largest street piano installation to date that reached over two million people within 2 weeks celebrating the vision that all New Yorkers have access to the arts. Each one of the 88 pianos on New York City streets, in parks and on boardwalks, were painted by a Sing for Hope Volunteer Artist. From June 18 to July 2, 2011 performances took place on the pianos by members Volunteer Artists - including Broadway stars, local songwriters, and ballerinas and passersby. These individuals share one thing: a desire to give back through their art, and to unite artists with their local communities. After the project ended on July 2, Sing for Hope’s Pop-Up Pianos were donated to the local schools, hospitals, and community organizations that we serve year-round. |
