A young couple is going to a village somewhere outside Moscow to baptize their child secretly. They see a train with convicts passing by the station they just arrived at. Suddenly a letter falls out of one of the cars. The main characters understand that it is a letter home. The follow-up boils down to painful struggle between their conscience and fear. They are well aware that helping the letter reach the addressee will be regarded as collaborationism, for which they may be prosecuted. |
