Revolving around a young boy’s journey from his shack in a township to the correctional facility his father calls home, Meniscus is a spatial exploration into the definition of ‘adequate space.’ We follow the boy through his daily grind from fighting his way to catch the last taxi to school, the uncomfortable environment he’s expected to learn in, the tight journey by rail and lastly the seemingly organized mass of prison existence. His experiences of ‘normalcy’ throughout his ‘free’ journey come to a head when confronted wit his father’s experience in a system intended to limit ones liberties. By juxtaposing the realities prevalent within contemporary informal life with the current prison dilemma, the film questions basic spatial rights stipulated in international and national charters. |
