Two Kalsan investigate the murder of a despised mining boss and the disappearance of a charismatic political revolutionary on the desolate but mineral rich planet of Mari. Mining operations must continue at any cost or the galactic economy will be ruined. Pressure mounts, as the military occupies the settlements and the protesters threaten anarchy. Yuriko interrogates Joe Vess, the charismatic leader of the Mari Independence Party, and gets caught up in a struggle to control the destiny of the world. In the process, Yuriko learns more about herself than the miserable conditions of life on the brutal planet. Meanwhile, Kessa interrogates Freddie West and discovers the truth is not what she seeks. |
