Details:

In today’s modern world, we often lose faith in the guiding hand of fate. “Progression” is the story of a young boy and a young girl who find each other against all odds. The story opens up with an elderly woman walking down the street, and knocking on the door of a nearby house. Elsewhere, a young girl - and talent musician - narrowly avoids being hit by a car. This causes her to drop all of her work onto the ground. Despite trying as hard as she can to collect the fallen items, a songs worth of sheet music blows away in the wind. It travels all the way across town until it crosses paths with a young man. Curious, being a musician himself, he takes it home, sets it down on his piano and begins to play the song. The song starts out sweet and soft, then as he continues to play, it intensifies and he cannot help but fall in love. As he plays, the young girl continues on her way home and hears her music being played. She looks toward the young man’s house and sees him playing through an open window, the melody pouring out onto the street. Running up to the house, she knocks on the door. Inside, the young man turns from the piano to the door. The door is opened, but an elderly man stands in place of the young man. An over-the-shoulder shot reveals the elderly woman from the beginning of the film standing in place of the young girl. The sheet music is how they met and feel in love. The elderly woman was knocking on the door of her past, so to speak, and reminding her dotting husband of how they first came to be. Lost in the hustle and bustle of today’s society, we all have to remember the power and strength behind fate, and just see where the wind will take you.
