In this Vitaphone featurette, released first in 1944 and reissued in 1953, Craig Stevens plays the famed American composer, Stephen Foster. Using flashbacks, this two-reel short traces the life of Foster from the age of six until he dies old, penniless and mostly forgotten. The film peeks in while Foster is penning such songs as “Oh, Susanna”, “Camptown Races” and “Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair.” |
