Melies was doing pioneering filmwork more than a century ago. This is usually considered to be his best.
Very few people know about Melies unless they happen to be silent movie buffs. Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin overshadowed a lot fine directors during the silent movie period and not just here but in Europe too. I was not a fan of Chaplin nor Keaton.
He was the original master of that art (ツ)
This silent movie was one of a handful of silent movies I watched in a film lecture class. For some reason I remember this one more than any of the other movies from the course.
