Three film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.
When this came out there was so many people and media coverage saying how good this was that I just knew I had to see it. So when I finally got to see it, I made a night of it. Renting several other horror flicks and inviting my cousin-in-law who was just as keen to see it as me. The film was very entertaining! I consider this movie a comedy classic. Terrifying …not so much. I can understand why many people found this scary, you’re in a place that you have rarely, if ever, been (the woods) and it’s full of strange noises and smells and what have you, then you get turned around and suddenly you’re lost! Oh! No! time to panic!
TL;DR City kids get lost in the woods and freak out, hilarity ensues.
How did this ever come to define a genre? Music at end is creepy. Only good part. Sad thing is, I know I’m going to waste even more time watching the sequel thinking, “It’s got to be better than the first one.”

Oh, I couldn’t disagree more! The characters were fun, and the cast was cute. But mainly, I really liked the way the script slouches against the 4th wall, smoking a cigarette and laughing at the audience the whole time. The unreliable narrator is a common trope in psychological thrillers, but I can’t recall seeing it used in a horror movie before. And the central plot device is a group of fans of a found-footage horror movie watching footage they found of themselves enacting the violent scenes of the horror movie they’re in. I think that’s very clever! Still, I can see your point. It’s not scary. No amount of meta-narrative flair can redeem a horror movie that isn’t scary. Which is exactly the problem I had with this movie too.
i made a “test/experiment” back then, when this movie came out and showed it to my mother….she was a kind spirited woman and was absolutly terrified. its about the foreseeable killing in the cellar at the end…
. this site just Suckz the fun out of it .

The sequel is not at all better. Glad I saw it due to my curiosity but a complete waste of funds.

I felt it was trying too hard to be clever, which never works out well.
My brain must have been super finicky and fearful 25 years ago. Re-watching this now It just seems like a nauseous B movie thrill ride.
They should call this pos movie, ‘Three Annoying Twenty-somthings Get Lost and Argue a Lot, and Nothing Scary Happens!’
I disagree. I really felt the existential terror of being lost in the wilderness, never mind the weird stuff. Took me awhile to get the end. lol
