Daniel (30) sets-off from the familiar surroundings of Tel-Aviv to find a brighter future in Los Angeles. The common fantasy of ‘making it’ in America becomes an hallucinatory journey after the footsteps of his desist grandfather; a failed filmmaker in Hollywood. Daniel wanders the haunted spaces of LA, where he gradually traces bits and pieces of his grandfather’s forgotten film, before reconnecting them in his shabby motel room. He is slowly swallowed by his grandfather’s story and loses his own way. The Birdman is a Hybrid film, constantly shifting between documentary and fiction, depicting both Israel and California as two ‘promise lands’ which fail to deliver the dream of fulfillment. The Birdman is about what remains of ideologies and desires after crashing into the concrete reality.
