maybe cause its french style sci fi? but so was fifth element french styled, that did ok in english speaking areas ..

gadfly_mta 7 points 4 years ago.

I loved the fifth element and most besson’s films, but I couldnt get into this movie. I didnt care for the lead “actors” at all and they were not french in any way. Hiring a model to try and lead a credible film is prob not a good idea

kingarco66 5 points 4 years ago.

oh i dont mean french actors or anything, I mean its the sort of hyper-cosmopolitan space opera setting thats typical of french sci fi comics, like metal hurlant or anything by moebius .. maybe it reflects a certain euro view of the future? like a galaxy wide multi ethnic european-like culture? idk .. try some of those comic strips you might agree with me

gadfly_mta 3 points 4 years ago.

heh so you marked me down? the problem wasnt french scifi it was picking people for parts based on looks not talent.

kingarco66 4 points 4 years ago.

no i didnt mark you down im not a child lol

Jhigh03 3 points 4 years ago.

and yet the same model you speak of anchors “Carnival Row’ from Amazon opposite Orlando Bloom. It almost seems like that’s more of a you issue and not representative of the rest of the public.

Made of Money 2 points 4 years ago.

Carnival row sucked too. She is too small to be a action heroine. Orlando bloom is a skinny wimp too.

Jhigh03 3 points 4 years ago.

I wasn’t advocating for the quality of “Carnival Row”, just the fact that her hireing in “Valerian” wasn’t some sort of one-of. I personally don’t even find her attractive now( but being 100 with you, when I first saw this I most certainly did) BTW, she is 5’8” while Carrie Fisher was just 5’1” and Natalie Portman is 5’3”. I am confused why you decided to trash Orlando Bloom, why you so mad bro?

ShugarCat 3 points 4 years ago*. 4/5 stars.

Initially I found this movie slow and I had little interest in the main characters. About half way through the story had my attention. Its not a great film by a long shot, but it is a good watch if you stick with it.

i loved it :)

Super Sci-Fi movie way beyond most. The Beautiful women are very striking.

It’s that time of year again! I need my special Sci-Fi fix. Time to load up the needle.

Caterwaul 2 points 4 years ago. 5/5 stars.

pretty good movie i like the concept

ac1d 2 points 4 years ago*.

first the bad -the acting is terrible one dimensional and just plain awful- the good this is VISUALLY STUNNING the CGI and creatures is just off the grid on this- there is so much detail in every shot -2 hours of explosions of colour -i liked it

ac1d 1 points 4 years ago.

after reading all your comments i cant work out whether this is worth watching or not ?

TreeofWoe13 5 points 4 years ago.

It’s a stylistic thing. Personally I love it and have watched it several times. It’s not the cookie cutter Hollywood style action sci-fi, so some folks are going to hate it. I’d give it 30 minutes, you’ll know.

greyfur 2 points 4 years ago.

I watched it twice myself, and thought it was pretty good. I like science fiction a lot, my favorite kind of movie and book as well. Best described as a ‘space opera’ I guess, not in that it’s a musical, but in that it covers a lot of time, generations, and it’s galaxy spanning. Acting is really not all that bad as it’s being made out, and the visuals are really great. If you like sci-fi, you will probably like this.

Trent 1 points 1 year ago.

I Love you Bubble!

Fmghost -2 points 4 years ago.

This movie isn’t bad it’s just that the lead actors were badly cast. Nobody thinks Avatar is an amazing movie anymore if the sequels ever come out they’ll probably won’t do anywhere near as good at theaters either
