This is a play of an alienated man (Jerry) who cannot make any relationship with any human. The only creature he makes contact with is a dog. One day sits on a bench in the Central Park and there he comes across Peter. The two men are strangers but later they introduce themselves to each other and keep the conversation going. One thing Jerry always insists Peter to know is that he has been to the zoo. He tells the new friend about animals at the zoo. The two are involved in a long various chats until at a point eventually Jerry commits to suicide. However, it’s by the hand of Peter. An absurd play on which everyone might have their own perception about what Albee implies in the characterizations of Peter and Jerry, also about the zoo itself. After all, I think this is the greatest play about the impact of modernism; an era when people tend to ignore other humans.
