A documentary project shot from the perspective of ingenue director Jeff Roy, a PhD student and Fulbright scholar, who accompanies Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, a recognizable figure on Indian television and Hijra transgender, to her home in Mumbai for an interview. The film takes place entirely inside Tripathi’s bathroom as she bathes while Roy interviews her. In the interview, Tripathi reveals her thoughts on spirituality, her ‘coming out’ process, and some previously undocumented facts about her personal life. The director finds himself in a vulnerable position when, at the end, Tripathi physically reveals that she is not entirely transgender, despite popular belief. |
