No Hell is set in a small coastal village, where Cian, a twelve-year-old boy, builds a raft with his best friend, Franky. A third boy, Rowan, pleads in vain to join them. Later, on his way to the raft launch, Cian is propositioned by two men in a van, who offer him fifty pence to deliver a message to Johnny Byrne, a local shady character. Inside the house, Johnny subjects Cian to a theological monologue on the non existence of hell. Cian flees the house and runs to the storm wall, where he sees Franky and Rowan paddling out into the bay without him. |
